This paper by Wei Ching Wang examines whether Taiwan’s economic inequality has worsened as Taiwan has evolved into an economy concentrated on information and communications technology (ICT). The author shows that both economic inequality and unemployment have severely deteriorated in Taiwan since 1980. Further, the reasons seem closely related to the relative growth of information-intensive and ICT-relevant industries although other social and economic factors must not be overlooked.
