Building on a survey where took part more than 50 Local Authorities and Local Strategic Partnerships of England and Wales, this report evaluates the current use of quality of life indicators by local governments, and makes recommendations for improving their effectiveness in policy decision-making. Produced by the New Economics Foundation and the University of the West of England, the report was written by Sarah Higginson and Florian Sommer (NEF) and Alan Terry (UWE). The authors recall the “indicator journey” from 1992 on, summarize the collected data, and suggest in particular to embed these indicators in existing policy-making processes.
