This 2001 report by Pat Conaty, Ed Mayo, Sarah McGeehan, and Danyal Sattar, was part of a research by the New Economics Foundation. Considering that the social economy is growing significantly in the UK, the author argued that the growth of social enterprise is held back by a lack of finance and appropriate legal forms. The report reviews the innovative practises emerging to address these barriers. It is based on the practical experience of social entrepreneurs interviewed during the course of the research. It shows that there are clear, straightforward and achievable steps to support, develop, and finance social enterprises in the UK and recommends a radical new agenda and action to achieve this.
